J.R. Johnston is an award-winning author and anthropologist, passionate teacher and explorer, and devoted and doting father. He holds two Master's Degrees, has lived in nine countries, and speaks five languages. Culture is one of his life's passions, and the expression of individuality which he has found it best pursued through writing.

Beyond his imagined adventures, he has lived many adventures as well. Whether living in in a Tibetan Buddhist Monastery, Excavating a Minoan Ruin, Diving and sailing the Caribbean, finding and documenting the lives of the last speakers of indigenous languages, or studying and volunteering with the elderly in Kyoto, Sikhs in London, itinerant workers in Budapest, and the homeless in Asheville, he has a passion for experience and for facilitating voice for the marginalized. 

J.R. also coaches soccer, writes poetry, climbs mountains, is into gongshi and Zen Aesthetic Principles, studies physics and Mayan Glyphs, and worldschools his kids.
